Muzaffarpur hospital blaze kills 3 patients, leaves 20 injured
Two workers were killed and four others critically injured after a chemical storage tank exploded at Keerthi Chemicals factory in Mandya district of Karnataka on February 15. The blast occurred while machinery and materials were being dismantled and shifted from the closed industrial unit.
According to preliminary information, the explosion was triggered by a leak during the clearing of a chemical tank as part of the relocation process. The factory had remained shut for years, and the hazardous material was being handled when the accident took place.
The plant had earlier faced protests from local residents in 2022 after an alleged toxic gas leak damaged nearby crops and affected villagers’ health, prompting intervention by local authorities and the decision to close operations. Since then, only removal and shifting work had been underway at the site.
The injured were rushed to the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences for treatment. Police have registered a case and begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the blast. The deceased workers were reported to be natives of Bihar.
